Batliwala House No. 43

Sony has launched a new show - Batliwala House No.42 based on the very popular british hit "Kumar's At No.42".

- The characters for these kind of show must be 'intelligent' actors who can provide their 'own input'.
- The characters in the show carry a single 'screen saver' like face - they do not offer variety
- The background laughs are added on punches - but the delivery from the actors doesn't match it
- In the original show Mira Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar were the highlight - here we have nobody.
- The parents in original show followed a regular habitual behaviour of talking about same things - but due to their characterization and talent always added a spark. Here the father is a complete non-attracter and the mother has not matured till to be an actor, she belongs to the age of ham comedy.

Advice to SONY television :
- Comedy can only be delivered by actors who can add something of their own
- Comedy is very difficult - it needs intelligence and personality
- Intelligence - Anupam Kher, Govinda, Paresh Rawal & Pankaj Kapoor. Personality - Amitabh Bachchan & Sanjay Dutt.
- Comedy is very serious business
- Funny looking does not mean funny.

Prediction :
This show won't continue for long.

Option :
Koffee With Karan
- Why ? 'bcos Karan enjoys proximity with celebrities, he knows the entertainment industry and since he is one of the most successful producer and director in the industry - actors would like to please him and that gets the show something 'extra'. Karan is himself an intelligent person and he is not doing something comical, but he is tactful and keeps the show interesting. So even though nothing special happens on the show and you do not get to know the celebrity, still you find it good 'cos the packaging was good.

Ekta kappor is not following Menon's advice and is producing the films. Her latest is "Kya Kool Hai Hum". I have seen the trailers on the TV and my god it has two deadliest combination - Ritesh Deshmukh & Tushar Kapoor. They are really kool man, (check the pic) actually the title would been more cooler - "Kya thakele hum".

Question: If there was a comepetion between Ritesh and Kapoor, who would be a able to move a fly seating on their nose with their facial expressions . Who would win ?

Santy's Pick & unpicks on Indian TV

Santy recommends :

* Coupling (Star World) : A comedy about sex and relationship without any skin. Brits do it best.

* Mind of a Married Man (Zee English) : Yet another adult comedy. Don't watch it with your wife, she will come to know what goes inside in your upper brain.

* American Idol (Star World) : Look ma there are stupid people in US too. Watch it to hear Simon Speak.

* Curb your enthusiasm (Zee English) : superb, simple and funny too.

* Mad TV (Zee English ) : Industry people must see it to know what is 'variety'.

* The Great Indian Tamashaa (NDTV) : Puppetry and politics at it's best

* Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai (Star One) : Need to develop taste for this kind of stuff, a sitcom which is really situational and not facial acrobatics and over acting.

* Instant Khichdi (Star one) : Full of overacting and exaggerations, but at its best.

* Goodness Gracious Me & Kumar's at No.42 : Simply superb.

Need Improvements :

* The Great Indian Comedy Show (Star One) : Need to learn from Mad TV as it is something similar. Your show has not reached so much popularity that you end your gigs by shouting your show title. Some gigs are really cool and some are bouncers. But you can do much better.

* Cyrus Vs Cyrus / MTV Fully Faltoo (MTV) : This program runs under "Cyrus Employment Guarantee Scheme". Can't say antything more than that. MTV is becoming too casual and comfortable with its image.

* Zoom (The entire channel ) : Welcome to cleave land. You know what I mean.

Koffee with Karan

The czar of Indian bubble gum romance, has his own family show on Star World - Koffee with Karan. It's kind of all things and people related to johars and chopras on TV. Even if they would have fixed a camera in Johar's or Chopra's bunglow and had chatted in their drawing rooms, it wouldn't have made a difference.

But Karan's ventures are all cheesy and hip so he likes to have a Koffee with friends on cool TV sets and gets paid too. Intelligent person.

There is one thing however I couldn't miss. I thought the only indulgence in Karan's life is 'SRK' as he only tells. But after watching few of his episodes - there are two personalites whom we have not seen in his productions or chopra productions, but are mentioned quite often.
1) Mallika Sherawat - Murder
2) Neha Dhupia - Julie

I think the guy is very upset with these people, it seems they refused to sit with Karan on his Kouch and have Koffee.

Since Indian television industry is more interested in the portrayal of scoundrels & bithces now we will have to lookupon the channels like Animal Planet :

So, you thought Animal Planet only shows some wildlife footages with no real story to tell? It's time to change your opinion now. Animal Planet has recently come up with shows which are full of emotions, drama, humour and of course, dollops of adventure.

For instance, there's the emotional story of tigress 'Machli'. The channel will showcase how she fights to save her territory for her kids from two male tigers. The show will be premiered on Animal Planet on November 8 at 10 pm.

The programme looks at how Machli had battled with her mother two years ago, and had taken over the prime tiger territory around Ranthambhore’s lakes. Now Machli has two cubs of her own, but the father of her litter has gone and is presumed dead. Machli’s cubs are in grave danger from the two new males, who are trying to establish themselves in the area and mate with her.
